This week, after extensive preparatory work, one of our clients communicated the new organizational structure to its workforce. We had the privilege of supporting the entire transformation—from design, through collaborative development, to communication. It was an intensive and successful process! Often, these structural changes are developed behind closed doors by a project committee, only to be presented to all affected parties as a finished product. This often results in a situation where a small amount of support generates a great deal of resistance.
Together with our client, we took a different approach based on the following key elements:
- Full transparency regarding the step-by-step process right from the start
- A compelling and emotionally engaging storyline that highlights the need for action
- Actively involving and consulting with the various levels of management in the development process
- Creating space for emotions and the underlying needs
- Meticulous and Flexible Planning
The effect was impressive: the leadership committee presented a united front, with convincing statements from individual members—despite being directly affected themselves. There was a great deal of understanding and support, alongside understandable emotional reactions. This marks the beginning; the main task—implementation—still lies ahead. We look back with gratitude and amazement on this fruitful, trust-building start to this process of change.
